FULL BIO
Growing up on Prince Edward Island , Patricia Murray knew that it was a special
place with talented, musical people who had the gift of sharing Scottish tunes and songs. The Gaelic language also
held an important link to Island culture and it's history. It was fortune that brought her to Summerside's College of
Piping, where the beautiful and haunting songs crafted from this remarkable language first inspired her current
interest.
Patricia traveled to Scotland over the years hearing and learning the Gaelic songs from world renowned singers such as
Christine Primrose and Findlay MacNeill, and attending Gaelic Immersion courses on the Isle of Skye at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Learning about her own Scottish ancestors and the legacy of
their language, customs and history has been a strong significance to Patricia in the past few years. Also, a degree
in Celtic Studies from the University of Toronto in Ontario and her now
involvement with the Gaelic community in Nova Scotia has all fostered Patricia’s interest in connection of language and
music found on the Island and the East Coast of Canada.
Currently, Patricia lives in Nova Scotia, performing, teaching and conducting workshops across the country. She is also a member of tuig (Gaelic for "to understand"),
the fastest rising Irish/ Celtic group in the Canadian Maritime Provinces working on their first full length album.
